![]() "Wonderful time. The Cardis (Cardigan terriers) enjoyed themselves so well. Thanks." - Michele, Fred, Lucy, Jester, Phoebe & Rio.
Country roads and scenic mountains ... rolling farmland and picturesque villages ... the Monadnock Region! The Region is noted for its scenic towns and villages that offer the traditional New England experience. Discover uncrowded lakes and woods for hiking and boating - mountains and meadows for hiking and skiing. Enjoy tax-free shopping at country stores and antique shops. ![]() The word "monadnock" originally comes from the Abnacki Indian language meaning "mountain that stands alone." Because Monadnock "stands alone", views from the treeless summit stretch far into the distance for 100 mile views into surrounding states like Vermont and Massachusetts. Mt. Monadnock was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1987. A magnet for hikers, there are forty miles of clearly marked foot trails, from wooded hills to bare rock summit, through unique alpine vegetation. "Besides being the most popular mountain in America, Grand Monadnock is known as the most climbed mountain in the world. Now in southwestern New Hampshire, 125,000 people every year hike to the top of Monadnock." (Grand Monadnock: Exploring The Most Popular Mountain In America By Julia Older and Steve Sherman)
Surry Mountain Lake offers year round fun for everyone. The recreation area offers a 600 foot long sandy beach, with a swimming area, boat ramp and picnic tables with grills. Swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, canoeing, horseshoes and volleyball are some of the summertime favorite activities enjoyed at Surry Mountain Lake. During the winter, visitors enjoy x-country skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. With over 1600 acres of managed land and a 265 acre lake, there is something for everyone at Surry Mountain Lake: hunter, angler, wildlife photographer and birder. In the spring the state stocks trout upstream of the lake and in the fall pheasants are stocked. ( Note: Hunting and fishing are permitted in accordance with New Hampshire state laws and posted regulations.) ![]()
